Religious education or faith formation is an ongoing process for every baptised individual. At St. John Vianney, we provide avenues so that you can continue your faith formation or begin your Catholic journey by joining the Christian Initiation process commonly known as RCIA for adults or RCIC for children.

Preschool / Kindergarten. Religious education is offered to Preschoolders and Kindergarteners during the 9:30 Eucharist on Sunday mornings.

Liturgy of the Word for Children. The Liturgy of the Word for Children is offered to children in grades K - 4 at the 9:30 Eucharist on Sunday mornings.

Grades 1 - 9. Children in grades 1 - 9 receive their faith formation through the Religious Education Program. The education provides a foundation in the Catholic faith and preparation for the Sacraments. Grades K - 5 are also welcome to attend Vacation BIBLE School.

Grades 7 - 12. Students in grades 7 - 12 are invited to continue their faith formation through the YESS program.

Adults. We do not forget the adults. They receive informal faith formation as they bring their children to the sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation. We encourage adults to attend the Advent and Lenten series and to participate in BIBLE Study.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

The religious education program provides instruction for students in grades 1 - 9. Classes for grades 1 - 8 meet on Wednesday and are held in the home of the teacher. The grade 9 class meets from 7:30 - 9 PM on Wednesday at the parish in the Social Hall. During the year, opportunities are given for celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Teachers in this program volunteer their talents and service, but are required to attend workshops and to work toward Archdiocesan Certification, for which classes and opportunities are provided. To offer your assistance, contact Sr. Marietta in the parish office at 895-0896.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

The purpose of VBS is to give children in grades K - 5 an opportunity to express through hands-on activities which include sharing scripture stories, prayer, art appreciation, crafts, music, drama and dance. It is an opportunity for you as older adults to volunteer your time and talent for the children of the parish.

RCIC

Children interested in entering the Catholic Church go through the process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC). This process is comparable to the one used for adults, the RCIA. This program also follows a weekly schedule of classes generally from late summer to the following Easter. It is for children in second grade and up who have not been baptised and/or who have not been attending church and not receiving catechetical instructions.

If you are interesting in knowing more about the RCIC process, call the parish office at (402) 895-0895.
